As an entrepreneur and college graduate himself, Lee Session – the owner of Mr. Do Hair Design, takes education very seriously; therefore, our barbershop is committed to investing into the future of deserving young people who wish to pursue a college degree. The following lists the 2 different types of educational scholarships that are offered and awarded annually by our shop:

Mr. Do Hair Design Client Scholarship Program

  • Are you graduating from high school and need assistance to attend college?
  • Do you want to get a college degree?

The Mr. Do Hair Design Client Scholarship Program offers college scholarships to high school seniors from our clientele base. Applications for scholarships are awarded once a year at our annual Client Appreciation Party which is always held the first Sunday in May.  High school seniors must apply before March 1, 2013 for the Fall 2013 college school year.  Every year, Mr. Do Hair Design distributes at least one $2,000 scholarship (for 2013, we are awarding a $4,000 scholarship) to a deserving student from our clientele base who plans to attend a 4-year accredited, college institution.

Derrick Clinton Scholarship Fund

The Derrick Clinton Scholarship Fund was established by our barbershop in honor of one of our barbers who became ill and died at the early age of 46 in early 2012. Derrick Clinton started working at Mr. Do Hair Design in 2011 and made a lasting impression at our shop with his personality and his skill level at his barbershop craft. Our owner, Lee Session, has seen a lot of barbers during his lifetime and made special note that he had never seen a barber with better skills than Derrick. Derrick was a huge football fan and was known for his fade haircut skills where he would create Kodak moments by doing such things as leaving “RICE27” (for Ray Rice of the Baltimore Ravens) cut into the hair of a client. Derrick was a huge football fan, a great barber, and a loving father to his three children who are just as intelligent as their father, Derrick.

As a result of the impact that Derrick had on our barbershop, Mr. Do Hair Design pledges at least $2,000 for each year of the first four years of college for each of Derrick’s children, if they decide to attend an accredited college when they get older. Our pledge equals a total of $24,000 if each of his children takes advantage of this scholarship opportunity. This commitment is an active illustration of how much we were truly impressed with Derrick Fitzgerald Clinton.
